, a lot of folks from suburban places around the country, it's become a bit unruly on economics. and i think obama has papered over that for the last four years. but i think that's going to change here in the next few years. the first issue where i think we'll see a conversation on this is the question of entitlements. there are some folks in the democratic party who are happy to have a conversation on issues like the eligibility age for medicare. other democrats like sherrod brown, the senator from ohio, i talked to, they say hell, no, we are not going to have a conversation about that. that is core to our dna, and we're not going to move on that. >> j-mart, last time republicans had an internal debate about a lot of these issues, a lot of folks divided the party. you mention smd moderaed some m coming over to the democratic party. do you see a contentious primaries in the future for the 2014 midterms? >> well, look. i don't think you're going to see the sort of club-for-growth-style conservative on moderate attacks that you see in the gop. i think you're going to see some of that. ke

of he epsiode mass violence, we experience that across the country. year, 33rday of the americans are killed with guns. president obama will take the oath of office, and during those 0our years, some 4800 americans will be killed with guns. twice as many people as were killed in combat in the vietnam war. i have made it clear our has threesan coalition requiring legislation and four calling for executive action and i hope they will support all seven. first and most urgently -- we need the presidenet and congress congress to require background checks at gun sales and online. private sales account for 40% of gun sales nationally. there were more than 6 million gun sales that happened with no background checks. many of these are handguns, used in 90% of all firearms murders. across the united states, 80% or ofgun owners and 90% americans require gubackground checks for gun sales. we have laws on the books requiring background checks when dealers sell guns. it is time for the president and congress to make this the law of the land. 40% that the law does not apply to is a sham. and con

[inaudible question] >> both the bidens and the obamas will participate on saturday. that will be here in the metro area. we have a number of cabinet officials that will be participating and we will be making announcements on that in the coming days. as you know, odds are you will know when it happens, but they will be doing something and that will be the entire family. >> just a follow-up on the fundraising question, if you have leftover funds, where do you plan to use those funds? presidential library? >> you know, i can honestly i don't know. there are rules that regulate what we can and can't do with those funds. i know some funds were used to do repairs on the national mall through the association that governance the national mall. that's a bridge we'll cross when we come to it. but there are a number of civic-minded things to do if we are lucky to have access funds when it is all said and done. >

, there was tremendous partisanship in this country. a tumultuous time. the level of bipartisanship. there's such hatred that you can't get in a room. it never seems like obama gets in the room. biden got in the room beforehand. but look, everybody hates each other down there. it's exactly the opposite of what you would expect from a respected nation. it makes us look mickey mouse. i don't blame fitch. look, we have to pay bills, the constitution says it, but everybody doesn't seem to care much about the constitution right now. >> i thought yesterday at the president's news conference, i thought the partisanship was at an all-time high in regards to the fiscal cliff debate. they, referring to republicans in congress, they can either acts responsibly and pay america's bills or act irresponsibly and put america through another economic crisis. it feels a little bit worse, markets sort of shrugged that off. that was good news in all this. but it seems like the dividing line is real firm and real deep between republicans and democrats at this point. >> i wonder whether we know anything. one of the things th

, every single day across our country. every day of the year, an average of 33 americans are murdered with guns. here is another way to think about what that means. one week from today, president obama will take the oath of office for his second term. unless we take action, during those four years, some 48,000 americans will be killed with guns. nearly twice as many people as were killed in combat during the entire vietnam war. when i have talked with the vice president, i have made it very clear that our bipartisan coalition of mayors is supporting seven measures. three that need legislation and for that require only executive action. we are hopeful the president and vice president will support all seven. i just wanted to touch on each of them briefly. first, most urgently, we need the president and congress together to require background checks for all gun sales, including private sales at gun shows and online. private sales now account for more than 40% of all gun sales nationally. which means that in 2012 alone, there were more than 6 million gun sales that happened with no projec
